Dale Bartlett
Hi, I'm Dale Bartlett. I help kids discover creativity, talent, and self-discipline skills through music education.
Dale Bartlett is a native of the Quad-Cities (Il.)area, a graduate of Moline High School, Blackhawk College, and Illinois State University. He has taken classes at Western Illinois University, Augustana College, Vandercook College of Music, and Kent State University. He was married to Amy Bartlett from 1997-2000, but had no children. While growing up, Dale Bartlett could usually be found holding some sort of sporting device or a saxophone. Dale Bartlett played on numerous teams. His favorite sport was baseball. However, he tried basketball, soccer, football, billiards, table tennis, golf, and bowling. Dale Bartlett holds three league championship trophies in team bowling and missed a perfect game once by one pin. He also has been a member of the YMCA and the Bureau County Metro Center. While in college, Dale Bartlett was in the world's largest college marching band. At the time, the Illinois State University "Big Red Marching Machine" marched 436 people on the field at once. The most memorable experience with that band was performing at the Chicago Bear's game versus the Denver Broncos. Dale Bartlett learned then that performing the National Anthem in a large stadium can be a bit challenging for any person or group. Along with numerous instrumental music opportunities in college Dale Bartlett also had some very good vocal music experiences. His first singing teacher was Dr. Frederick Swanson, who founded the nationally and internationally known Moline Boys Choir. After that came singing in church choir, the Blackhawk College Madrigal Singers, the Quad-City Men's Chorale, and voice lessons at Illinois State University, not to mention a little vocal coaching from a certain opera singer friend. While at Blackhawk College, Dale Bartlett studied jazz with Dane Marolf(Indiana University), Ray Turfler(Rock Island High School), Roger Perley(Blackhawk), Phil Woods(Pro/Workshop), Chris Vadala(Pro/Workshop), and years later worked with Dr. Edgar Crockett(currentBlackhawk director) in a student clinic. Dale Bartlett then studied classical, contemporary, and jazz saxophone with James Boitos at Illinois State University. While in college, Dale Bartlett took a liking to piano and various other instruments besides saxophone. Dale Bartlett's main piano teacher's were LaVonna Kiesele-Bartlett(no relation), and Lucille Perley but then studied later much on his own along with group piano class at ISU. Other noteworthy teachers in college were Ed Livingston(ISU & RIngling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus), George Fuller(Brass), Dr. Donald Armstrong(Conducting), Robert Allen, Larry Frank, Paul Borg, David Collier(percussion), and many others including woodwind, voice, and string teachers. After college Dale Bartlett considerred the Military. However, as the Dan Fogelberg song says: "he tried to be a soldier once, but his music wouldn't wait." So, he then went into a music teaching career. Noteworthy moments with students in Dale Bartlett's career have included numerous concerts, athletic events, festivals, contests, and field trips. Most memorable field trips for Dale Bartlett would likely be the choir trip to Nashville and the Jazz Band/Swing Choir trips to Disneyworld and Branson. However, many trips to Chicago, Springfield, and DesMoines still stand out in his memory. Dale Bartlett now resides in DePue Illinois, is a K-12 Music Teacher, loves to spend time with family, pets, and friends, and also enjoys travel, photography, movies, and music in his limited spare time.
